ABOUT JHG

Fascinated by science and nature, JEANNETTE HERNANDEZ GONZALEZ creates organic abstractions in which she layers botanical and anatomical forms. Shapes that are familiar, yet just beyond definition, inhabit her landscapes and bodyscapes. Conceptually, what began as an anxiety about the fragility and temporality of life has developed into a celebration of its diverse design.
Born in Southern California, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Texas San Antonio in 2003, graduating with concentrations in both ceramics and painting. She was a recipient of the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship Grant to attend the Yale University Summer School of Art and Music in 2002, and has participated in exhibitions in Texas, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and New York. She currently lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.
